The Peterborough Council on Aging is a community base collaborative organization working to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of older adults in the Peterborough region. Peterborough has the distinction of having the highest proportion of people over the age of 65 in Canada at around 20%. The PCOA celebrates this fact.
Over the past three years the PCOA has been working to develop an Age-friendly Plan for the City of Peterborough, County of Peterborough, Hiawatha First Nation and Curve Lake First Nation. As of May, 2017 the Plan has been adopted by the City of Peterborough, County of Peterborough, the Township of Asphodel-Norwood, the Township of Cavan-Monaghan, the Township of Douro-Dummer, the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, the Township of North Kawartha, the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan, Selwyn Township, and the Municipality of Trent Lakes. The Age-friendly Plan will be our guide for improving the community for our aging population.
